long running report can not be rendered in Report Manager or through Subscription

I am using a stored procedure which will run about one hour and ten minutes to return a dataset to reporting services to generate a report. The report generation is OK if I run it inside Visual Studio 2005. Once it is deployed, it can not finish. Both cases I set "Do not timeout report execution". I even try to create a subscription to let it run throught. But it still can not finish. The traces information in ReportServer*.Log is like this:

I would like know the reason behind it. How to fix that?. I use Sql Server 2005 developer edition.

Thanx

There is a limit for how long a report will run from Report Manager. You can modify the setting at:

Report Manager --> Site Settings-->Report Execution Timeout-->Limit
report execution to the following number of seconds = 3600 (1 hr)

|||

Thank you for your reply.

Actually I set

Report Manager --> Site Settings-->Report Execution Timeout-->Do not timeout report execution. It still can not produce the report.

Another question is after I set localhost/reports and localhost/reportserver session timeout to 3 hrs and these site's asp.net state management session timout to 3hrs, the localhost/reportserver is not accessable. Maybe it is a reporting services bug. Steps to repeat the scenario: Go to IIS, right click localhost/reports-->Properties-->Click Configuration-->Application Configuration-->Options-->Change session timeout to 180 minutes. To set asp.net state management session timout to 3hrs. right click localhost/reports-->Properties-->Report Properties windows-->Click ASP.NET tab-->Edit Configuration-->State Management-->Set Session timout to 180 Minutes.

So far so good. Once repeating above operations to localhost/reportserver, both sites will become unaccessable.

Your response will be appreciated.

|||

The exception you are hitting is the session access timeout. The viewer control will try to ping back to the server every N-1 minutes (where N is basically the session expiration time). The default session access timeout is 10 minutes, so if the report takes over an hour to render, you will hit this timeout.

You can run into problems when the time it takes to render the report is longer than the session timeout, I would recommend altering the following system properties (you will have to do this via the SOAP API or an rs.exe script since they are not exposed in the management studio UI) to be more on the order of what you expect the report execution to be:

SessionAccessTimeout|||

Actually, rendering the long running report in the report manager is just for test purpose. I will create a subscription to deliver the report to a shared folder using SOAP API. Even for the subscription, the timeout issue still exists. Could you provide me some examples to set session timeout via SOAP API or a re.exe.

Thank you very much.

|||Any news? I have the same issue. Can you explain please which values should be used for these parameters in order to get the report running for more than 1 hour?|||There is a blog about it here

http://blogs.msdn.com/jgalla/archive/2006/10/11/session-timeout-during-execution.aspx
So i did change this for a report that needs 20 minutes but it still fail after 5 minutes with this error in the computer application log

Report Manager --> Site Settings-->Report Execution Timeout-->Limit
report execution to the following number of seconds = 3600 (1 hr)

|||

Your response will be appreciated.

|||

SessionAccessTimeout|||

I would like know the reason behind it. How to fix that?. I use Sql Server 2005 developer edition.

Thanx

There is a limit for how long a report will run from Report Manager. You can modify the setting at:

Report Manager --> Site Settings-->Report Execution Timeout-->Limit
report execution to the following number of seconds = 3600 (1 hr)

|||

Your response will be appreciated.

|||

SessionAccessTimeout|||

Long Running Query - Only from .NET

I have a pretty complex query that aggregates lots of data and inserts multiple rows of that data into a reporting table. When I call this SPROC from SQL Server Management Studio, it executes in under 3 seconds. When I try to execute the same SPROC using .NET's SqlCommand object the query runs indefinitely until the CommandTimeout is reached.

Why would this SPROC behave differently with the same inputs, but being called from .NET?

Thanks for your help!

Turn on debugging, make sure the query isn't causing exception.

ERic

|||

I am debugging in .Net, I don't get an exception until the Timeout is reached.

|||

I fixed it! It was the return method. I was using 'RETURN @.@.ROWCOUNT' rather than 'SELECT @.@.ROWCOUNT'

Thanks for your help

Hello - we are using the custom security extension and SSL on our reporting site. Everything works great except for the logon.aspx page. It functions fine but it won't display the embedded styles or images on the page. Any clue why that would be? We get a white page with broken image links.

Our uilogin.aspx page shows styles and images. We've cut and pasted this code directly into logon.aspx but it still doesn't work. I have verified that the files are in the ReportServer folder.

Thanks for any help you can give.

OK, we figured out a workaround. We have to use a URL to the Report Manager to be able to reference any resourced items like images and style sheets. Here's our image reference that works:

Logon prompts twice

Any idea why the logon prompts again when clicking on a report after
succesfully logging into the reporting services the first time? The report
opens with no problem. I am using Windows Server 2003, SQL Server 2000
Standard Edition, and IIS 6. Thanks.
FabianStill looking for a solution to this problem with no luck so far. Here is
some additional information that might help pinpoint the problem.
The title of the first logon window is "Connect to www.mywebsite.com" while
the title of the second logon window is "Connect to ServerName"
Any suggestions on how to fix this?

Logon failure: the user has not been granted the requested logon t

I get the following error when I try running a report using Reporting
Services 2005. The Data Source gets to SQL Server using a domain account. The
Application Pool is running under NETWORK SERVICE.
I see a lot of postings about allowing for Logon Locally. I am sure this
could fix the issue, but why is that standard practice? I don't allow that
for impersonating a user in a standard web application (with web.config --
impersonate user).
===== Error ========= An error has occurred during report processing.
Cannot impersonate user for data source 'DataSourceName'.
Logon failed.
Logon failure: the user has not been granted the requested logon type at
this computer. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070569)We don't use logon locally rights...
Instead, we grant NETWORK SERVICE account the right to connect to the SQL
Server database (the specific database) instead.
Some administrators would flip out if they had to change their local
security policy. At least as a DBA I can make this change without having to
involve layers of people to get it implemented.

Logon failure executing reports in SRS2005

Environment: Application server with WS2003, IIS 6.0 and Reporting Services
2005; Database server with WS2003 and SQL Server 2005.
Each time I want to execure a report I get the following error message:
Logon failed. -->
Logon failure: the user has not been granted the requested logon type at
this computer. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070569)
Reporting Services Configuration tool does not show any errors.
Web Service and Windows Service identity both use NT AUTHPORITY/NETWORK
SERVICE.
Database Connection uses sa.
It does not make any difference from where I execute the report, application
server, client, Report Manager, Report Builder, always the same login
fauilure.What user is the Application Pool for the report virtual directories running
under?
I did have lots of problems with a RS server where someone had used a domain
user as the identity for the application pool. This domain user did not have
the access rigth to "Log on as a service", which was needed. I changed the
identity to run as network service, and all the errors went away. Might help
for you as well.

But your response triggered me to check once more the execution account (a
domain account) I use to perform unattended operations. When I added this
account to the administrators group it worked. Probably not the right
solution but at least I could move on with the testing.
Thanks,

logon failure error in Reporting Services (rskeymgmt error)

Hi,
I have Reporting Services 2000 installed and I have a remote report server
database.
The Report Server is configured to use a domain user account to connect to
the report server database.
The password of the domain user account is changed a few days ago and I
updated the ReportServerConfig using rsconfig utility.
But, I am still getting the error logon failed error :
â'The report server cannot open a connection to the report server database.
The logon failed. (rsReportServerDatabaseLogonFailed) Get Online Help
Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password.
When I tried to take a backup (extract) of the existing symmetric keys using
rskeymgmt utility, I get the error, unable to connect to the database.
Can somebody provide me the resolution? Can I delete the keys without taking
a backup?
Thanks,
MujirDid you get this resolved we are experiencing the same thing?

Logon failure : (rsInternalError)

On a SQL server 2000 SP4 on XP PRO SP2, I have installed Reporting Services.
I have created an local administrator user and I have given this local
account as "Domain user Account" during installation.
When I try to acces report server, it fails with the message "Logon failure:

In the logfile of Reporting services, I read these informations :

Can somebody help me to solve this problem ? Thanks for allHi Gaby,
Welcome to the MSDN newsgroup.
From your description, I understand you have installed SQL Server 2000(with
reporting service) on a Windows XP SP2 machine. Also, during the
installation time, you configured the Reporting Service to use a certain
domain account which has been granted the "Local Administrator" role.
However, when you try accessing the report server application, it threw the
following exception:
"Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password. " ,correct?
Based on the log file content you provided, the error occured when the
report server try performing some security operations like reading account
info. I've also checked the error and find some reference in MSDN on the
similiar problem. Are you try viewing a report which use external
datasource and use prompted or stored Windows credentials to connect to the
external datasource? If so, you can have a look at the following
troubleshooting article, and the below section
"Connection error, where login failed for <servername>\ASPNET"
is describing the similiar problem as yours.

Thank you for your help but I am sorry to say that your recommendations
didn't work on my PC
I have just installed an SQL Server on my windows XP (SQL server 2000 + SP4)
and the Reporting Services (+ service pack 2). After that, before making any
own report, I have just tried to contact the report server, on this PC, in
an IE5 session with the address : localhost\reports. And then I have received
the error message : logon failed !!
My PC is an "entreprise PC", this a lot of components "masterised" in a
"logically gathered software" and I think that perhaps some authorizations
are not correctly installed for my requirements, but I don't know where I
have to search !!

So the problem is somewhat different from that mentioned in the doc. Since
the error stack shows there is some login fail error and also mentioend the
MACHINE\ASPNET account, I think you can try the followings to see whether
it is concerned with account permission:
1. Change the reporting service windows service's identity from the current
account( the one you specified during setup) to Local System.
2. Temporarlily Add the ASP.NET process account (machine\ASPNET) into
local administrators group or just replace the ASP.NET process account
from "Machine" to "SYSTEM", this can be set in the .net framework's
machine.config(under C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.1.4322\CONFIG)
After that, restart reporting service to see whether it work.

machine.config file of the current version of the framework (in the CONFIG
Folder), and change, in the processModel parameter, the value of the userName
parameter, from "machine" to "SYSTEM".
By stopping and restarting only the reporting service and the IIS server,
this modification don't work but after the "total reboot" of my computer, all
is OK and I can now see the contents of the folder in the Reports Server
Thank you for all (and I hope that our discussion can help other persons)

Logon failed. (rsLogonFailed)

Hi,
I am writing a web application in c# that is attempting to get the
parameters from a report on a Reporting Services 2005 server.
I am using the following code:
SQLReportViewer.ServerReport.ReportServerCredentials = new
ReportCredentials(UserName, UserPassword, UserDomain);
SQLReportViewer.ServerReport.ReportPath = Rpt.FileName;
SQLReportViewer.ServerReport.ReportServerUrl = new Uri(ServerUrl);
Parameters = SQLReportViewer.ServerReport.GetParameters();
The Getparameters Line causes the following exception:
Microsoft.Reporting.WebForms.ReportServerException was unhandled by user
code
Message="Logon failed. (rsLogonFailed)"
Source="Microsoft.ReportViewer.WebForms"
ErrorCode="rsLogonFailed"
StackTrace:
at Microsoft.Reporting.WebForms.ServerReport.get_Service()
at Microsoft.Reporting.WebForms.ServerReport.GetExecutionInfo()
at Microsoft.Reporting.WebForms.ServerReport.GetParameters()
The UserName, UserPassword and UserDomain variables are all populated
with correct data, as is Rpt.FileName.
The ReportCredentials class is a very simple implementation of the
ICredentials interface - Code shown here:
-->
public class ReportCredentials : IReportServerCredentials
{
protected string _UserName, _Password, _Domain;
public ReportCredentials(string UserName, string Password, string Domain)
{
_UserName = UserName;
_Password = Password;
_Domain = Domain;
}
//*****************************************************************
public bool GetFormsCredentials (out System.Net.Cookie AuthCookie,
out string UserName, out string Password, out string Authority)
{
UserName = _UserName;
Password = _Password;
Authority = _Domain;
AuthCookie = null;
return (true);
}
//*****************************************************************
public System.Security.Principal.WindowsIdentity ImpersonationUser
{
get { return (null); }
}
//*****************************************************************
public ICredentials NetworkCredentials
{
get{ return (new NetworkCredential(_UserName, _Password, _Domain)); }
}
<--
I can use the same credentials to retrieve a list of reports from the
report server (the report I am trying to access is in that list) and to
log on directly by going to the URL of Reporting Services.
This is made more frustrating by the complete lack of detail in the
error message, as it does not say why the logon failed, or give me a
single clue about what is going on.
Has anyone seen this before and can tell me how to fix it, or is there
something stupid in my code?
Thankyou.
PaulTwo points. What role is your user in? It could be that perhaps you need to
be in a different role to get information about the report than you do to
get a list of reports? It seems to me if it worked for a list of reports
then your login must be OK.
Second issue. For something like this I recommend trying to web forum. The
other MVP is there and is familiar with webservices. Also, that is where MS
people hang out.

I'm pretty sure the Role is OK, as I know the same user details are
being used successfully in another application, which I am replacing,
but that is just showing the report and is not trying to get the
Parameter list.
