Long Running Query

I have a SP, which displays results within 15 secs on local SQL server, but when trying execute from other SQL Client, it takes more than 5 mins. And I don't find any network issues. Can anybody help me to isolate the issu

if a lot, then everything points to a network issue.
transfer a large file (~100MB) between the client and
server, how long does it take? Fast Ethernet at
100Mbit/sec in full-duplex should move data between 5-
10MByte/sec depending on the number of hops.
if you are not on Fast Ethernet with Full-duplex mode,
then it may very well take forever.
given that FE switches are so inexpensive, i would not
bother trying other tricks to make this work on half-duplex

does the execution plan show a hash match or hash join?
if so, are more than 10K rows in hash ? regardless of the
final row count.
when you say local, are you running the sp from QA,
from other clients: is that QA or your own application

Basically this SP is returning the data used in a report. It is doing Hash match / Part Aggregate join. There are about 5000000 row in the Hash
The table has about more than 10000000 rows and it is indexed, as per requirement, and columns used in joins and filter

Bhagya|||If it is doing a Hash match then you probably don't have proper indexes but
that is not always the case. How may rows are you actually returning to the
client? Sounds like a lot. The more rows you return the longer it will
take, especially if the client can't handle them fast enough.

Logon failure : (rsInternalError)

On a SQL server 2000 SP4 on XP PRO SP2, I have installed Reporting Services.
I have created an local administrator user and I have given this local
account as "Domain user Account" during installation.
When I try to acces report server, it fails with the message "Logon failure:
unknown user name or bad password. "
In the logfile of Reporting services, I read these informations :

From your description, I understand you have installed SQL Server 2000(with
reporting service) on a Windows XP SP2 machine. Also, during the
installation time, you configured the Reporting Service to use a certain
domain account which has been granted the "Local Administrator" role.
However, when you try accessing the report server application, it threw the
following exception:
"Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password. " ,correct?
Based on the log file content you provided, the error occured when the
report server try performing some security operations like reading account
info. I've also checked the error and find some reference in MSDN on the
similiar problem. Are you try viewing a report which use external
datasource and use prompted or stored Windows credentials to connect to the
external datasource? If so, you can have a look at the following
troubleshooting article, and the below section
"Connection error, where login failed for <servername>\ASPNET"
is describing the similiar problem as yours.

Thank you for your help but I am sorry to say that your recommendations
didn't work on my PC
I have just installed an SQL Server on my windows XP (SQL server 2000 + SP4)
and the Reporting Services (+ service pack 2). After that, before making any
own report, I have just tried to contact the report server, on this PC, in
an IE5 session with the address : localhost\reports. And then I have received
the error message : logon failed !!
My PC is an "entreprise PC", this a lot of components "masterised" in a
"logically gathered software" and I think that perhaps some authorizations
are not correctly installed for my requirements, but I don't know where I
have to search !!

So the problem is somewhat different from that mentioned in the doc. Since
the error stack shows there is some login fail error and also mentioend the
MACHINE\ASPNET account, I think you can try the followings to see whether
it is concerned with account permission:
1. Change the reporting service windows service's identity from the current
account( the one you specified during setup) to Local System.
2. Temporarlily Add the ASP.NET process account (machine\ASPNET) into
local administrators group or just replace the ASP.NET process account
from "Machine" to "SYSTEM", this can be set in the .net framework's
machine.config(under C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.1.4322\CONFIG)
After that, restart reporting service to see whether it work.

machine.config file of the current version of the framework (in the CONFIG
Folder), and change, in the processModel parameter, the value of the userName
parameter, from "machine" to "SYSTEM".
By stopping and restarting only the reporting service and the IIS server,
this modification don't work but after the "total reboot" of my computer, all
is OK and I can now see the contents of the folder in the Reports Server

Logon failure

To get my reports to work from the 2005 Report Manager I had to put the
Execution Account into the Local Administrators Group, otherwise I got a
Logon Failoure message when attempting to view the report. Is this how it's
sipposed to be?Don't use anonymous access with windows authentication......

had a limited donain account set for the services and the execution account.
When a report was selected to be viewed a logon failure error resulted saying
that "The user has not been granted the requested logon type at this machine
"
I was unable to figure out how to change the requested logon type, so I
added the account to the Local Administrators group and I no longer got the
Logon failure error. Now I thought that Microsoft was attempting to secure
the way that things worked so that an account as in this case would not need
to have such elevated permissions. I am looking for information that can
explain what is required for an account to be able to execute reports when
requested and validation that they have to be in the Administrative group.
The anonymous caused me confusion because I don't see where it comes into
play.

Login/connection problem

I have installed SQL Server 2000 SP3a on an XP machine and running in
mixed mode. I log on using a local user name belonging to the
Administrators group.
When I attempt to connect to the DB through .Net with the following
string:
Data Source=(local);Initial Catalog=Cat;User ID=user;Password=pwd" or
Data Source=(local);Initial Catalog=Cat;UID=user;PWD=pwd"
I receive the following error:
Login failed for user '(null)'. Reason: Not associated with a trusted
SQL Server connection.
However, I can login using osql -Uuser and password pwd.
What am I missing here? I am desperate!

It seems that SQL client network protocals are not enabled properly. I
suggest that you run
%windir%\SYSTEM32\cliconfg.exe
and enable TCP/IP and named pipes protocals.
Also, please run server network utility to enable the same protocals:
%programfiles%\Microsoft SQL Server\80\Tools\Binn\svrnetcn.exe

Load

Actually, the error message is most likely caused by Windows
authentication. Could you double check if the error is caused by the
ADO.net call with the sql authention connection string?

|||The error message is telling you that, although you passed SQL Server
authentication credentials, the DBMS is actually attempting Integrated
Security=SSPI, that is, Windows Authentication. You should check to make
sure your network account has been granted SQL Server login access or force
SQL Server, and your connection string, to use SQL Server logins.

Login/connection problem

I have installed SQL Server 2000 SP3a on an XP machine and running in
mixed mode. I log on using a local user name belonging to the
Administrators group.
When I attempt to connect to the DB through .Net with the following
string:
Data Source=(local);Initial Catalog=Cat;User ID=user;Password=pwd" or
Data Source=(local);Initial Catalog=Cat;UID=user;PWD=pwd"
I receive the following error:
Login failed for user '(null)'. Reason: Not associated with a trusted
SQL Server connection.
However, I can login using osql -Uuser and password pwd.
What am I missing here? I am desperate!

suggest that you run
%windir%\SYSTEM32\cliconfg.exe
and enable TCP/IP and named pipes protocals.
Also, please run server network utility to enable the same protocals:
%programfiles%\Microsoft SQL Server\80\Tools\Binn\svrnetcn.exe

Did you use ASP.net? If so, please check if you encountered the following
issue:
324479 FIX: ASP.NET SQL Server Session State Impersonation Is Lost Under
Load

Actually, the error message is most likely caused by Windows
authentication. Could you double check if the error is caused by the
ADO.net call with the sql authention connection string?

||||The error message is telling you that, although you passed SQL Server
authentication credentials, the DBMS is actually attempting Integrated
Security=SSPI, that is, Windows Authentication. You should check to make
sure your network account has been granted SQL Server login access or force
SQL Server, and your connection string, to use SQL Server logins.

Actually, the error message is most likely caused by Windows
authentication. Could you double check if the error is caused by the
ADO.net call with the sql authention connection string?

||||The error message is telling you that, although you passed SQL Server
authentication credentials, the DBMS is actually attempting Integrated
Security=SSPI, that is, Windows Authentication. You should check to make
sure your network account has been granted SQL Server login access or force
SQL Server, and your connection string, to use SQL Server logins.

Login to SQL with non domain account

I have a problem accessing a SQL instance from a VB script that uses a SQL
user, and is executed with a local computer user.
When I use the same VB script while logged on with any domain user it
executes successfully.
All SQL tools like query analyzer and enterprise admin have not problems.
What can cause this problem?
Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,
Looks liks your SQL Server is setup for Windows Authentication only. In that
case to communicate to
SQL Server you may need to login to client with an domain user which has
access to SQL Server. Incase
if you can not do that then change the authetication mode to Windows and SQL
Server authentication.
In this you could connect to SQL Server using SQL Server Authentication.

You are using integrated security for authentication to the SQL Server database.

ASP.Net runs with the identity of the ASPNET user account by default and this user account has limited rights.

Try to avoid integrated security and specify the user name and password for the SQL Connection String instead.

And make sure you DB name isTest1 not test1

Hello,

I am also experiencing the same problem as 'chemystery', and I too have used integrated security in my connection string for authentication to the SQL Server.

I have contacted the DB and server administrators to find out if they can give me the username and password so that I can include it in my connectionstring but they have refused as they say it breaches their security protocols.

Is there another way around this that will allow integrated security and allow access to the DB?
